So, I've decided that my favorite drink this summer is the Mocha frescato (sans whipped cream) at Costa Coffee..it is quite spectacular and has my seal of approval. Kit and I were there the other day and he had the summer fruits one while I had my mocha one and we read newspapers and books on a 'pleasantly warm' day

So here is Eric. Everyone has finally bullied him into making a website! Here is today drinking coffee and talking to thusara. It's glorious weather and kit and i went out driving to tesco today. Not much else going on, chicken in the oven so shall go eat!

Hummus and me

Its a gorgeous day today with sunshining and a successful driving lesson. So I thought I might make hummus. I've never tried it before and surfed on the net for a bit to find out if there were any cardinal rules I should follow. There didn't seem to be so I kind of winged it!
And here's the proof..it was beyond yummy...it was in fact Hummus of Stupendous Goodness or HOSG. So in case you want to try:

1cup cooked,skinned chickpeas
2 pods of garlic
1 tbsp of cumin
1 tbsp of sesame seeds
Lots of lemon juice
A dash of olive oil
Salt and Pepper
(I used dried chickpeas which I had soaked overnight, cooked in a pressure cooker for 30 mts or so, then peeled but a can of chickpeas would probably work just as well)

1. Dry roast the sesame seeds, cumin for a few minutes
2. Dump chickpeas, garlic, sesame seeds, cumin, some water, olive oil and lemon juice in the food processor and whiz until it looks hummusy. Add some salt and pepper and taste liberally. I added more lemon juice as I like hummus lemony.
3. Refridgerate for 15 minutes or so if you like yours chilled and eat with pitta bread or olives or cucumber sticks or on its own. and Bob's your uncle.
Also putting up another pic of an AMAZING roast kit made..the vegetables were roasted underneath the chicken with sesame seeds and coriander. It was very very good.

We have finally finished all the paperwork for the wedding etc and now are officially married with all the strings tied up. :D yeay!!! however with regular wedding events happening in our life next month we wont know what to do. tis good that liam and becca are getting married! hehe

Wedding dates!

The dates for India are 25th and 26th of March 2006 at Angels Resort in Porvorim, Goa. The mehendi and sangeet on the 25th and the wedding, reception on the 26th. Shall explain all about the ceremonies soon!
The date for U.K. is 15th April 2006 at Winchester Family Church, Winchester at 2.30pm and the reception at Itchen Abbas Village Hall in the evening. Just a heads up to keep those dates free for all you who are interested. We will have more than enough rooms in Goa so if you think you might want to come for the indian side of things, email me (snehalsidhu[at]gmail.com) and shall ply you will all the details!Also pack a swim suit as there is a pool (and the sea) and its going to be warm.

An attempt to make cupcakes was made..erm..it failed...badly..hence it must be post-modern cupcakes!!no recipe will be provided as it was a complete total failure! (or as T says 'a complete total deferred success!').Hmmm i shall leave T to show you the ruined remains of a good idea. (and hope his beautiful face will distract from the trainwreck that was the cupcakes!)

Today my wonderful woman cooked ANOTHER cake. We have decided to bake a series of cakes inspired by the great philosophers and thinkers of our time (and maybe some not so great ones if we run out of ideas...). In this thrilling instalment,

!!!Schrodinger's Uncertainty Cake!!!

You put cake mix into the black box (or whatever colour your oven is). But what comes out. Is it a cake? No: observe its crusty crunchy muffin exterior. Is it a muffin? No: observe its size and gooey fluffy texture. Therefore it is neither muffin nor cake but some different state, incomprehensible to the human mind.

Ahem.

The recipe: (inspired by the Blueberry buckle cake )
2 cups and 1-2 Tbsp of flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup butter
3/4 cup sugar
1 large egg
1/2 cup milk
1 pint frozen summer fruits (raspberries, red currants and the like)

Topping ingredients:
1/4 cup butter,
1/2 cup sugar
1/3 cup flour
1/2 tsp vanilla extract

1 Preheat the oven to 190 degrees celsius. Grease an 8-inch pan.

2 Mix the 2 cups of flour, the baking powder and the salt. Set aside. Cream the butter and sugar until fluffy, about 3 minutes. Beat in the egg. Add the flour mixtrue with the milk. Toss the beries with the remaining 1 to 2 tablespoons of flour (to separate and scatter evenly throughout the batter) and fold in. Pour batter into the prepared pan. Set aside.

3 Combine ingredients for topping with a fork to make crumbly mixture. Sprinkle this over the batter.

4 Bake for one hour, then test for doneness by gently inserting a fork.

That was Snehal. I'm not much one for recipes myself; just throw in the ingredients and see if it works. But that's probably why my cakes are wierd and Snehal's are wonderful. Anyway the cake is a few hours old and I have to go finish the last piece.... enjoy

We finally have decided on a date: 15th April 2006 for the England wedding and around the 27th of March for the Goa wedding. So excited and so many things to do but yeay! So if you know us and are going to be coming for the wedding you best keep those dates empty.

We had a great day today, kit roasted a huge duck and chicken and i made fresh blueberry sponge cake. Shared a nice hearty sunday roast with flatmates while watching the Ashes. Then we played poker with clay chips. all in all a very successful day indeed for the kit and kuki duo.

The chocolatiest chocolate cake EVER

Update on this post: I have now attached a picture of the evilest death cake(as T calls it!)It was a day of avoiding work for me today! went and posted a few things on main university campus while kit's been at work today (in his very funky van).

Since i was being such an useless hobbit today i decided to make a chocolate cake..and not just a normal cake but the chocolatiest chocolate cake ever made! its the Bruce Bogtrotters cake from Matilda from Roald Dahl's Revolting Recipe book. (ignore the name :p)

In the spirit of all things Roald Dahl (we saw charlie and the chocolate factory last weekend) i thought it appropriate to make Bruce Bogtrotters cake. For all those who would like the yummiest cake ever recipe:

175g butter
225g plain chocolate
175g self raising flour
6 eggs seperated
125g caster sugar
20cm cake tin (buttered)

Preheat oven to 180°c

Melt the chocolate and stir in butter till melted.

Remove from the heat and beat in yolks then mix with flour and sugar.

In a seperate bowl, whisk egg whites till stiff and fold into the chocolate mix, mixing thoroughly. Bake for 35 minutes. it looks like its still uncooked because its gooey in the middle but don't worry about it. If you want icing then just mix double cream and melted chocolate and pour on top.

I haven't tried it yet, is cooling in the kitchen. MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM

Adventure 1: Doing-Very-Little-Day

Today we have done very little, and we've done it very well. We watched alot of movies on the computer and.. erm... did the washing too in a feat of marvelous multitasking. And cooking Biryani (which was very tasty).

What else hmmmm..... well there's very little to say (surprisingly).

How to have a doing-very-little adventure of your own:
1. Get up late
2. Go back to bed
3. Get up later
4. Watch movies
5. Eat
Its as simple as that. Diamond!
